Flatbed carriers, construction suppliers, project logistics planners

December 14, 2025

Flatbed demand continues to track closely with the industrial and construction economy, and in late 2025 those fundamentals remain relatively healthy. Ongoing infrastructure programs, energy projects, and manufacturing investments are generating steady volumes of steel, pipe, lumber, heavy machinery, and oversized components. Carriers focused on these sectors report consistent tenders, long-term project commitments, and a pipeline of moves tied to utility upgrades, industrial construction, and site development across the Midwest, Southeast, and Gulf Coast.

However, the rate picture is becoming more nuanced than the raw freight demand might suggest. After a period of strength, some mature flatbed corridors are seeing rates plateau or slip slightly as capacity flows into markets that were previously under-served. Owner-operators and small fleets that migrated from struggling dry van freight into flatbed are adding trucks in certain lanes, creating localized pockets of competition. For shippers with flexible lead times and strong safety standards, this presents an opportunity to secure reliable carriers without overpaying.

Looking ahead to 2026, success in flatbed will likely depend on specialization and relationship depth. Carriers that invest in the right equipment—such as multi-axle trailers, RGN, and specialized securement—and that build strong safety and claims histories will remain preferred partners on complex projects. On the shipper side, better project forecasting, realistic loading/unloading times, and clear site access information will help attract top carriers and avoid costly delays. In an environment where industrial freight is resilient but not booming everywhere, disciplined execution will separate winners from the rest.
